About the Heritage Hog
The farm-to-table movement has changed the way we eat. Consumers want to know where their food and drink comes from and how it ended up in front of them. We have partnered with our friends and families generational farms to produce Heritage Hogs. Our Heritage hog breeds originated in England before 1900. Our hogs are a combination of Berkshire, Duroc, and Hampshire. Heritage breeds are prized for juiciness, flavor and tenderness. The meat is pink-hued and heavily marbled. Heritage pork is prized by top chefs and 5 star restaurants.
Heritage pig breeds are designed to be raised in a natural environment. They are provided with bedded pens and live a humane life. Our hogs have a higher vitamin content, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, because they are fed from the surrounding pastures. Lard from the pigs contain high levels of vitamin D, vitamin E and selenium. Vitamins that conventional pigs tend to be lacking. These vitamins assist in producing healthier litters with shorter farrowing times and make it possible to raise a pig without antibiotics or synthetic vitamins. High fat content makes heritage pork suitable for long cooking and high-temperature cooking. Eating a pig that had been fed a hearty diet of corn, oats, and alfalfa will produce some tasty meat. Healthy pig, healthy people!
